The Advocacy of FILSCAP

From local music to
foreign taste, Filipinos never fail to listen to good and quality music. Cafes,
Restaurants, Malls, Hotels, TV Stations and even Radio Stations have to pay royalty
rights before they can play a song for you.
Filipino Society of
Composers, Authors and Publishers, Inc. Or FILSCAP is a non profit organization
of composers, lyric-writers and
music publishers, authorized to execute the public performance, mechanical
reproduction and synchronization rights and for its members to have consistent
income stream. They have over a thousand members like Rico Blanco, Spongecola, Jim
Paredes, Jose Mari Chan, Rey Valera, Levi Celerio and many more and it has over
40 foreign society affiliates.
Music Makers negotiate with FILSCAP just so they can showcase
their “public performance right” efficiently and for business related topics,
they attend to FILSCAP’s requirement for them to have legal access to the music
they want to play.
According to Section 117.6 or Intellectual Property Code, a
copyrighted song cannot be played publicly without the permission of the
owners. With the help of FILSCAP, our favourite places and applications to
listen our music to, pays for royalty just so they can give the best music for
you.
FILSCAP is a member of
the Paris-based International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers
or CISAC, an umbrella organization of all composer societies around the world. Being
a member of the said organization, FILSCAP is known worldwide as the sole and
official music copyright society in the Philippines, and is subject to the
strict regulations and statues of CISAC.
You can thank Itunes,
Spotify, Jollibee, Starbucks, your favourite radio station and many more, for
legally giving you the quality music that you are asking for.

ReplyDeleteWow! Thank you for the information and new knowledge :) Actually I love music and of course OPM but I'm not aware of the rights of the composers. I'm glad to be part of the team that will contribute to uphold the rights of our Filipino music artist and also to share what we had learned during our preparations, interviews, and research.
ReplyDeleteBeing aware of FILSCAP, you will learn so many things about the copyright and learn to value the work of artists themselves. It's good to know something and act about it.
ReplyDeleteFILSCAP is a very great organization that could help save the rights of the people who creates the songs that we are taking advantage of, and that is by spreading awareness to the people.
ReplyDeleteVery informative indeed.
